Top Kitchen Trends for 2023

trendy and modern kitchen

Kitchen trends are ever evolving. Many of the hottest kitchen trends in Australia come from Europe where large design houses, like GESSI, collaborate with industrial designers and architects to set the trends for the coming season. Most of these trends are showcased at the world-renowned Salone Del Mobile fair in Milan where world leading brands in furniture and furnishings exhibit the latest in design from countries throughout the world. Let us take you through a few of the trends that we will be seeing in 2023.

Colours and Finishes

No longer is chrome and white the go-to finishes for the kitchen. Having finishes that match into the rest of the design décor of a home is now the norm. At Salone Del Mobile in 2022, finishes that were rich in earthy tones set the scene. GESSI exhibited a range of tapware in rich corals, mustard oranges and agave greens. These new finishes were also exhibited with current finish trends of metallic blacks, copper and brushed tones. These colour palettes were also seen in other areas of the home from lighting and tiles right through to décor trends.

Mixing colours and finishes will also be one of the major trends in 2023. Designers are creating kitchens using a mixture of metallic finishes for their fixtures and appliances. Using more than one colour for cabinets and tiles is also featured in many new kitchen designs.

Kitchen Tapware Knurling Feature

One of the major design changes to kitchen tapware over the last three years has been the introduction of knurling into designs. Knurling involves the etching of a pattern into the tapware material during the manufacturing process. The result is a stunning jewellery-like aesthetic. GESSI was one of the first companies to introduce knurling into its bathroom collections and this trend has started to move into their kitchen tapware options.

Storage Options

Storage has always been one of the major design considerations for the kitchen. Utilising integrated cabinetry to hide away small appliances and benchtop clutter is one of the major design considerations for 2023.

Technology

Technology has come a long way in the kitchen. Appliances have always been a focal point but now lighting, tapware and electrical fixings are creating trends in technology. At Salone Del Mobile in 2022, GESSI introduced the first kitchen tapware mixer which included an instant boiling and sparkling water system. Although this technology is not approved in Australia yet, it sets the next standard for what is ahead for the future.

Sustainability

Ensuring our precious resources are well preserved through the kitchen fittings and fixtures we decide to purchase is also another design consideration for 2023. Here in Australia, we test our appliances and tapware and provide an energy or water label on each product showing its efficiency. If it doesn’t meet our standard, it can not be sold. Purchasing LED lighting that don’t contain mercury and are low heat emitting is another consideration. Ensuring cabinetry, sinks, benchtops, flooring and tiles are manufactured from Eco-friendly materials is more important than ever. Abey have just released the Schock Green Line Sink Collection which is a range of Granite Sinks made from 99% renewable or recyclable materials.
