Top Tapware Trends for 2022

Bathroom Taps On Display

Like other trends within a home, tapware trends in both the bathroom and kitchen are constantly evolving. The majority of trends are set in Europe where large tapware design houses, like GESSI, collaborate with industrial designers and architects to set the trends for the coming season. Most of these trends are showcased at the world-renowned Salone Del Mobile fair in Milan where world leading brands in furniture and furnishings exhibit the latest in design from countries throughout the world each year.

Finishes

No longer is chrome the go-to finish for tapware. Having tapware in a finish that matches into the rest of the design décor of a home is now the norm. At Salone Del Mobile this year, finishes that were rich in earthy tones set the scene. GESSI exhibited a range of tapware in rich corals, mustard oranges and agave greens. These new finishes were also exhibited with current finish trends of metallic blacks, copper and brushed tones. These colour palettes were also seen in other areas of the home from lighting through to décor trends.

Knurling

One of the major design changes to tapware over the last three years has been the introduction of knurling into designs. Knurling involves the etching of a pattern into the tapware material during the manufacturing process. The result is a stunning jewellery-like aesthetic. GESSI was one of the first companies to introduce knurling into its bathroom collections. Ranges such as 316 and Inciso have a variety of knurled designs that also come in an extensive range of finishes. Our very own Abey Gareth Ashton Collection has a knurled design in its POCO K Bathroom Collection as well as in the Industrial Kitchen Collections.

Technology

Technology has come a long way in the kitchen. Kitchen taps are now an extension to any other kitchen appliance in making your kitchen as efficient as possible. Most kitchen taps are now mixers which allow you to control the temperature and flow of the water quickly. There are also pull out spouts with spray functions that assist you in washing food and cleaning your sink. Pull outs are particularly handy for large sinks and those with double bowls. At Salone Del Mobile in 2022, GESSI introduced the first kitchen mixer which included an instant boiling and sparkling water system. Although this technology is not approved in Australia yet, it sets the next standard for what is ahead for the future.

Sustainability

Ensuring our precious water is well preserved through the tapware we buy is another trend within the tapware industry. Here in Australia, we test our tapware and provide a WELS label on each product showing its water efficiency. If tapware doesn’t meet our standard, it can not be sold. At Abey Australia we pride ourselves on having some of the most water efficient tapware in Australia. All our water efficiency rates can all be seen on our website.
