7 classic sink designs that never go out of style

The humble sink is one of the most important elements of any kitchen renovation. It’s usually one of the most used fixtures in the room, and its design can set the tone for the rest of your reno.

With that in mind, it’s worth taking your time to choose a sink that’ll elevate your kitchen. To help you we’ve rounded up our 7 favourite, timeless sink designs, from fireclay to black granite.

  • Fireclay

Fireclay sinks, particularly those made by the artisans at Chambord in France, are a great way to add a little classic style to any kitchen. They typically come in a bone china white, with a pleasing smoothness and an extremely durable exterior.

Their charming and elegant design is perfect in classic, farmhouse or heritage kitchen designs.

  • Simple bowls

One of our favourite recent trends in kitchen design is the bowl sink. These are perfect in smaller, less functional kitchens such as those in your home bar or sleepout. While they typically aren’t an efficient use of space compared to rectangular sinks, they do add an intriguing point of difference.

  • Classic stainless

Stainless steel sinks are the most popular option in Australia, and with good reason. They’re incredibly durable and hygienic, and they look great when they’re styled well. If we were renovating we’d go for a large, minimalist stainless sink, with matching tapware and a white marble benchtop for that clean and classy look.

  • Coloured stainless

If you’re feeling a little adventurous, but still want all the practical advantages of stainless steel, why not go for coloured stainless? This is available via Abey in rose golds, brasses and golds and can be a striking centrepiece for any modern kitchen – if you’re brave enough to do something a little different.

  • Double sinks

While sinks should be a design centrepiece in your kitchen, they should also obviously be functional. No sink is more functional than a double bowl. These give you plenty of space to hide dishes, wash veggies and empty your half drunken tea mugs while still leaving one sink unoccupied for use.

They can also look great too – there are plenty of double fireclay and stainless steel options at Abey

  • Black granite

Schock, a German manufacturer, invented the granite sink around 45 years ago. Since then these beautiful sinks have exploded in popularity thanks to their outstanding hygiene, durability and slick good looks.

They’re available in a number of colours, from natural stone to white – but our favourite is definitely the minimalist black. It would pair perfectly with a dark green kitchen, with natural wood accents.

  • Seamless undermount

If you want the easiest to clean, slickest, most high-tech kitchen out there, a custom Barazza benchtop may be the perfect option. These are made to measure in Italy and seamlessly integrate your oven hob, fixtures and of course – your sink. This gives a seamless impression, which both looks incredible and is easy to clean.
