The Pros and Cons of Wall Mounted Bathroom Tapware

wall mounted bathroom tapware

One of the major considerations when designing a new or renovating a bathroom is choosing the right vanity tapware to purchase. There are a few ways of installing tapware into a bathroom vanity. Tapware can be fitting onto a bench or basin, or it can be mounted onto the wall. In this article we will take you through the pros and cons of mounting tapware onto a wall.

Pros

One of the major benefits of mounting your tapware onto a wall is the space it will free up.  For instance, bench space is premium real estate if you have a small bathroom to design. By mounting it on the wall, you will have more bench space around your vanity.

Mounting tapware onto a wall will also assist in making your bathroom look cleaner and more streamlined. Having to clean around bench mounted tapware is time consuming and a constant chore. Mounted tapware is less likely to be soiled from soap and tooth cleaning splashes.

With bench mounted tapware, you need to ensure the choice of the height of your basin mixer corresponds to the correct basin. For instance, countertop basins will require a tall basin mixer option. Wall Mounted tapware has the benefit of being able to be used with most basin applications and designs. The choice of designs with wall mounted tapware is also extensive. You have the option of going with a spout and mixer only, a wall basin set or a three piece set. A spout and mixer installed separately is a modern option. A spout, such as our Poco 165mm Spout (6S-C165) teamed with its matching Poco Wall Mixer (6SH-EXT+6SH-INT) is a popular choice. For ease of installation, we also have wall sets with a backing plate. Our new Vela 165mm Wall Set (7B-WS165) comes in a variety of finishes and is manufactured from low-lead brass. Finally for a more traditional look, a three-piece set could be your design choice. Our Italian-made Armando Vicario Top Assemblies (2200C) teamed with its matching Basin Spout (2075C) will complete this traditional look.

Cons

You need to be particularly careful when designing around wall mounted tapware. The placement of your mirror and wall storage needs to be carefully considered. Mapping out the height of your vanity, basin, then the tapware, then your mirror and storage is recommended to ensure it will be functional. We recommend using a qualified designer to assist you with your selections.

You also need to consider the depth of the tapware spout in comparison to your basin selection. Having a spout not long enough or too long could cause issues such as splashing once installed. Again, a qualified designer will be able to assist you to ensure your selection works correctly.

Mounting tapware to the wall could be a more expensive option. Additional plumbing is needed so the cost will increase, particularly if it is a renovation. The cost of the wall mounted tapware could also be more expensive than a traditional basin mixer. Going through your options with your local Abey Selection Gallery consultant will be beneficial.
